Whoopi Goldberg stars in her own television series as Mavis Rae, a former diva turned hotel owner. The show is filled with the usual group of misfits, including a heavily accented Iraqi handyman who is not always so handy, a maid named Jadwiga who does not always enjoy cleaning, and Mavis' brother, Courtney.

Most of the show is filled with jokes and snipes by Whoopi towards the other characters. Whoopi's character of Mavis is a hard drinking, chain smoking, know it all who enjoys making fun of others.

Along with her best friend, Rita, played by Elizabeth Regen, Mavis and the group spend most of their days at the Lamont hotel hanging out and joking around. The language they use is raunchy and decadent as they frequently make fun of the various hotel guests that show up at the top of each new episode. Sometimes at the brunt of the joke is Mavis herself, as she goes through a wicked case of menopause that is not safe from anyone's jokes.
