Witchblade: The Animated Series is a Japanese animated television show based on the American comic book series called Witchblade. The show is produced by the Japanese animation studio Gonzo and directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi. The show first premiered on CBC in 2006 and lasted for 24 episodes.

Set in present-day Tokyo, Witchblade is the story of Masane Amaha, a kind-hearted woman who awakens from a long slumber with no memories of her past. She is discovered on the site of a massive earthquake that has devastated much of Tokyo. Masane is soon revealed to be the host of the Witchblade, a powerful and ancient artifact that grants her incredible physical abilities and allows her to summon a massive, sentient sword.

The Witchblade is extremely sought after by a secretive organization known as the NSWF, a group that seeks to harness its powers for their own purposes. As Masane struggles to reclaim her memories and understand the nature of the Witchblade, she becomes embroiled in a conflict that spans the entire world.

The show features a talented cast of Japanese voice actors, including Akemi Kanda as Masane Amaha, Mamiko Noto as Reina Soho, Masaya Matsukaze as Takayama, Mie Sonozaki as Maria, Nana Mizuki as Rihoko Amaha, Rikiya Koyama as Douji, Shinji Ogawa as Shiori Tsuzuki, Shizuka Ito as Shiori Tsuzuki (young), Akeno Watanabe as Saito, Ken'ichi Suzumura as Yagi, Kazuhiro Nakata as Katsumi, Sakiko Tamagawa as Reiko Takahashi, Saori Yumiba as Emi, Aki Sasamori as Hiroki Segawa, Daisuke Kirii as Nishida, Daisuke Ono as Tozawa, Kenta Miyake as Rintaro and Maiko Itou as Sayaka. Each actor brings their unique talent to their respective roles, helping to make the show feel authentic and immersive.

The animation quality of Witchblade is stunning, with a great deal of attention paid to detail in the character designs and settings. The action scenes are particularly impressive, featuring fast-paced movement and intense choreography. The use of computer-generated effects in the show is seamless, adding to the overall cinematic feel of the series.

One of the most interesting aspects of Witchblade is its exploration of Masane's character. She starts out as a somewhat naive and gentle soul, but as the show progresses, she becomes more aware of her own past and the dangers of the Witchblade. Masane must learn to embrace her power and protect those she loves, while also battling her own inner demons and unravelling the mysteries of her own past.

The show also deals with themes of family, love, betrayal, and sacrifice. Masane's relationship with her daughter, Rihoko, is particularly poignant, as she must balance her duty to protect the world with her desire to be the best possible mother to her child. The complex relationships between the various characters in the show add depth and nuance to the overall story.

Overall, Witchblade: The Animated Series is a gripping and exciting anime that is sure to keep viewers engaged from start to finish. With its talented voice cast, stunning animation, and compelling storyline, it stands as a fantastic adaptation of the Witchblade comics, and a must-watch for fans of the genre.
