Watch WWE Superstars
WWE Superstars is another show that is part of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand. WWE Superstars is a way to showcase talent from all of the other shows in one episode. Each commentator will call matches from their respective brand, unless there is a reason that a commentator cannot be present. In that case, they have commentators who fill in and call matches when they are needed.
In 2008 WGN America agreed to work in conjunction with World Wrestling Entertainment to develop a show to showcase all talent from WWE and in 2009 WWE Superstars was born. WWE Superstars was developed in order to help showcase mid card to low card talent from all brands, as well as feature appearances from some of the bigger stars from time to time. WGN America aired WWE Superstars until 2011, citing the reason for not renewing the show as the series not meeting expectations. WWE itself picked up the show and aired it periodically until September 2012.
WWE would try to connect all of their brands by continuing story lines from show to show. It was not uncommon to see an angle that had begun on one of the shows earlier in the week, continue onto WWE Superstars. Even the commentators and ring announcers helped to make the story lines work and seem believable.
WWE Superstars uses the same set as the other brands, even making the transition to the high definition (HD) set that began being used in 2009. The show is advertised to take place on one night, however matches are taped during the two main brands and aired during WWE Superstars. This is the reason for the commentary by the brand commentators, as well as the ring announcers. This also explains why the ropes on the ring change depending on which brand is wrestling. All of this works together to create the illusion that its one complete one hour show, not just snippets of tape edited together.
