Because of the force of the crash, many people on board were severely hurt or dead on impact. After the snow of the crash landing settled, the survivors took count of who was dead and who was still alive. Six passengers and a flight attendant had been one of the first casualties to be noted.
The survivors were isolated in the middle of nowhere. They were scared that help wasn't going to come in time. The plane's radio was broken, and since cell phones weren't invented yet, they couldn't call for help. It was getting colder by the minute, and the survivors were also starting to get hungry. They conjured up a plan to sleep inside of the plane's seat covers for warmth. And they would eat anything they could find inside the suitcases of the deceased. Eventually, they ran out of food, which prompted them to debate heavily about eating the remains of the human dead bodies. Not everyone was fine with it, but in order to survive, they had to eat something. The survivors eventually ate the remains of the dead bodies to satisfy their hunger pains. At the end of the movie, two of the surviving men journeyed away from the group to see if they can find help, after a twelve day hike, the two men finally find help which prompts a rescue team to save the remaining survivors. Altogether, twenty nine people died, and sixteen people survived. There are memorial markers in the Andes still to this day.
