Area 51 is a science fiction thriller movie that came out in 2015, directed by Oren Peli. It is a found footage film, which means that it is presented as though it is made up of real footage and documentation of events that have taken place. The movie revolves around a group of four friends - Reid (played by Reid Warner), Darrin (played by Darrin Bragg), Ben (played by Ben Rovner), and Jelena (played by Jelena Nik) - who are obsessed with finding out what really happens at the notorious and top secret military base, Area 51. The United States Air Force base is said to be used for testing and experimenting of advanced military technologies and weapons, but the public remains unaware of what actually goes on within the base's walls.

The friends decide to take a road trip to Nevada in order to gain access to Area 51 and see what they can uncover. Their first attempt to get onto the base fails and they are subsequently arrested and released the following day. Undeterred, they decide that they will try again, but this time they will come better prepared.

The friends buy a set of high-tech cameras, thermal imaging devices, and even rent a drone to get a better view of the base. They also recruit a local enthusiast named JPL, played by JP Auclari, who has been tracking Area 51 for years and knows the surrounding areas quite well. Together, they work on breaking into the base and figuring out what's going on inside.

Once they manage to sneak into the base, they are horrified to discover that their suspicions were right - the military has been conducting secret and inhumane experiments on living beings, most of whom appear to be extraterrestrial. As the friends continue to explore, they are hunted down by the military personnel who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets safe.

The film is shot entirely in the found footage style, with shaky camera work and handheld footage, which gives the movie a raw and realistic feel. The visual effects are kept to a minimum, which is a good thing, as it helps to maintain the illusion that what the viewers are watching is real footage. The movie takes a slow buildup approach, and while it's not immediately scary or suspenseful, it does a good job of building tension and keeping the audience on the edge of their seats as the friends slowly uncover what's really happening at the base.

While the movie lacks A-list actors, the cast still delivers solid performances that keep the story grounded and believable. Special mention must be made to JP Auclari, who plays JPL, and Shane Szocs, who plays the leader of the military personnel tasked with securing the base. They both give standout performances that bring depth and nuance to their respective characters.

Overall, Area 51 may not reinvent the wheel when it comes to found footage movies or science fiction thrillers, but it is an entertaining and engaging watch. The film balances suspense, horror, and even some laughs in a perfect blend, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
