In this 1999 thriller, widowed history professor Michael Faraday believes something is amiss when a new family moves into the neighborhood. It's been a few years since Faraday's FBI agent wife, Leah, was killed in the line of duty, leaving him to rear a young son alone. Oliver and Cheryl Lang are initially a welcome relief because they have children around the same age as Michael's son.

After a few friendly meetings, things begin to arouse Michael's suspicions, and he proceeds to dig into the family's past. After unearthing a few troubling facts, Michael decides to contact his wife's FBI colleague, Whit Carver. In the interim, Michael's girlfriend, Brooke, dies under mysterious circumstances, after delivering some damning information. Michael is now convinced that the Oliver and Cheryl are involved in a massive plot to blow up the FBI building.

Backed into a corner, Oliver finally admits his intentions to Michael. During a face-to-face confrontation, Oliver refuses to stop the impending bombing. Michael and Whit are forced to find the bomb before they and hundreds of innocent souls perish.
