Autumn in New York

"He fell in love for the first time. She fell in love forever."

Autumn in New York is a 2000 movie that stars Winona Ryder, Richard Gere and Anthony LaPaglia. Winona Ryder plays a woman named Charlotte. Charlotte is in her twenties and likes to make hats. She meets the owner of a restaurant named Will, who is portrayed by Richard Gere. Will is very successful and is a ladies man. He likes Charlotte a great deal and finds out that he had dated her mother, who has since passed away. Charlotte has a heart problem, and she is dying, so she has a care-free attitude.

Will asks for a favor from Charlotte, so she creates a hat for Will’s date for a charity function. The woman stands Will up, so Charlotte ends up filling in for her. The two talk and end up spending a great deal of time together. Will and Charlotte find out that she has about one year to live. Charlotte decides to make the best out of her time left.

Charlotte loves poetry, and she and Will attend a Halloween costume party together where she dresses as her favorite poet, Emily Dickinson. She loves being around kids and even recites some of her favorite poems for them. Charlotte later dumps Will when she learns that he had cheated on her with one of his ex-girlfriends.

Will decides to change his ways and reaches out to his long-lost daughter, who has written him a letter. She is pregnant and wants to get to know him. He decides to allow her request, and the two are able to establish a relationship.

Will decides to go to Charlotte and ask for a second chance. He apologizes, and the two reconcile. Later, Charlotte has the life-saving surgery she needs, but, sadly, she dies while on the operating table. Will is later seen with his family at the end of the film.
