Watch Beyond the Law

"Beyond the Law" is a riveting tale of good and evil based on a true story. Charlie Sheen plays Dan Saxon, an extremely clean cut police officer with a particularly thorny set of personal demons: He is a cop but, thanks to an abusive childhood, he also deeply hates cops. He is recruited by Arizona state Attorney General Conroy Price (Courtney B. Vance) to go undercover and help them get the evidence they need to bring down an entrenched, malevolent crime ring in the form of a regional biker gang.

Initially, he is unable to infiltrate the gang. He smells of "cop" from thirty feet away. The movie follows his efforts to shed his good boy personae and develop a convincing bad boy alter ego, all the while he and Price wrestle with questions of how far is too far and whether he is merely doing his job or genuinely becoming one of the bad guys. Is this assignment a means to exorcise his personal demons or merely temptation to succumb to them?

Things get even more complicated when he runs into Renee Jason (Linda Fiorentino), a beautiful photographer taking pictures of the gang members. She knows he is really a police officer and she could blow his cover, which could cost him not only the case but also his life. The gang does not take kindly to undercover cops.

This movie is not just a tale of crime and attempted justice. It is also the spiritual and psychological journey of a man haunted by a past too terrible to imagine. In order to try to bring down both the evil that is this gang and his own personal demons, he must go beyond the law - and then try to find his way back. Will he lose his way for good? Or find himself in the process of trying to serve a greater good?
