Breaking Spirits is a 2016 supernatural thriller directed by Peter Findlay and written by Jennifer Findlay. The movie is set in Calgary, Canada and follows the story of three teenage girls who discover a frightening secret about their school. The main character in the movie is Amber (Skylar Radzion), a high school student who lives with her mother and younger sister. Amber's life takes a dark turn when her best friend Faith (Nakita Kohan) commits suicide. Struggling to come to terms with Faith's death, Amber becomes increasingly haunted by disturbing visions and starts experiencing supernatural phenomena in her house.

As Amber tries to unravel the mystery behind her friend's death, she is joined by two other girls from her school - Mei (Ludan Cui) and Lindsey (Maddy Findlay). The trio embark on a dangerous journey to uncover the truth about their school, which they discover is home to a malevolent force that has been preying on young girls for decades.

The cinematography of the movie is striking, with moody and atmospheric visuals that effectively capture the sense of foreboding that pervades the story. The acting is strong, particularly from Skylar Radzion who delivers a nuanced performance as a troubled teenager struggling to cope with loss and trauma. Nakita Kohan is also impressive as the deceased best friend, convincingly haunting Amber in her ghostly form.

The story itself is engaging, with a number of eerie twists and turns that keep the audience on edge. Although the movie follows familiar horror tropes – haunted houses, creepy dolls, etc – it manages to elevate them with its strong character development and unexpected plot developments. The climax of the movie in particular is thrilling, and delivers a satisfying resolution to the story.

However, the movie is not without its flaws. Some of the dialogue is clunky and exposition-heavy, which detracts from the sense of mystery and tension that the movie is trying to build. Additionally, some of the scares feel contrived and formulaic, relying on predictable jump scares rather than genuine terror.

Overall, Breaking Spirits is a solid horror movie that delivers plenty of chills and thrills. It is not without its faults, but its strengths in terms of character development and storytelling more than make up for its weaknesses. Fans of supernatural thrillers should definitely give this movie a watch.
