Watch Cleopatra

In 1963 Elizabeth Taylor starred in the movie Cleopatra with Richard Burton (Mark Antony) and Rex Harrison (Julius Caesar). In this historic movie, Julius Caesar defeats Pompey, and in turn, Pompey travels to Egypt to enlist the help of teenage Pharaoh Ptolemy and his sister Cleopatra. In a plot twist, Cleopatra hides herself in a rug which is found by Caesar, and eventually warns him that Ptolemy is surrounding the palace with numerous men. Caesar decides to attack and burn the Egyptian fleet and city so he can reign over its harbor. Once the city has been destroyed, Caesar demands Ptolemy join his now vastly outnumbered soldiers. Cleopatra is crowned Queen, falls in love with Caesar, and they have a son whom they name Caesarion.

While Cleopatra remains in Egypt, Caesar returns to Rome and they are separated by a vast distance for two years. Cleopatra eventually rejoins Caesar in Rome, now arrogant with power and wealth, and he is ultimately stabbed to death by various senators. Caesar's nephew Octavian is named heir instead of his son Caesarion, and this causes Cleopatra to return to Egypt because of a lack of a Roman future.

Later, Mark Antony enters the picture and becomes Cleopatra's lover, is forced to marry Octavian's sister, divorces her after a year, and ends up giving one third of the empire to Cleopatra. In the end, Antony falsely believes Cleopatra is dead and kills himself by sword. Cleopatra suffers a similar fate when she thinks her son is dead and kills herself with an asp.
