Glory

"Their innocence. Their heritage. Their lives."

The movie Glory is a drama set during a war. This movie has some well known Hollywood actors including Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Matthew Broderick. The storyline is based on a volunteer infantry from Massachusetts that fought during the American Civil War. The movie follows Captain Robert Shaw and his team of Union Soldiers when they attack Confederate troops at the Battle of Antietam. His army does not do well and has many casualties. Shaw himself is saved by a slave named John Rawlins. Shaw is promoted to the rank of Colonel and he is in charge of an army composed of all African Americans. Thomas Searles is the first black man to sign up. He is a friend of Shaw's and has a good education.

More and more black men joint his team including former slaves and blacks that have enjoyed the freedom of the north. Shaw finds that his men are being used as laborers for the army and demands that they go to combat. They are then sent to South Carolina to join in the fighting of the war. Shaw leads his men to Fort Wagner where they wage an attack on the Confederate Army. His men wait until night time then they attack. During this time Shaw is killed. His fellow solider including Thomas leads the team. He ends up dying in the fight as well.

The film gives information and bring the events that really happened at Fort Wagner to life. By the time the war was coming to an end almost two hundred thousand African America volunteered to fight in this war on the side of the Union Army. President Lincoln credit's the bravery of these men among the other soldiers one of the main reasons why the Union Army won the war and slavery was abolished through out the United States.
