International Velvet

This film is a sequel to the famous film made in 1944, National Velvet, about a girl and her horse. The story follows Sarah Brown's life after her parents are killed. They die in a car crash, so she is sent to England to live with her Aunt and Uncle. When living in England, she purchases a horse that she names Arizona Pie. The horse is trained by Captain Johnson and eventually enters the three-day Olympics event. She wins the competition after training and practice. When she falls in love with an American competitor, she eventually moves back to the United States with him. In this movie the star is the niece of Velvet Brown. In International Velvet, the niece loves horses and is determined to ride and win races. When she lives with her aunt and uncle she often struggles to meet their high demands. The tough horse trainer played by Anthony Hopkins helps the girl learn to be the best rider she can be. When Tatum O'Neil took the role, she did not know how to ride a horse that well. She took professional lessons before the filming began from an experienced trainer. The trainer found O'Neal to be a fast learner. She learned in one month what took many riders five months or more. She was trained by competitors in the Olympics when filming in England. The acting in the film received good reviews from many critics. The film was directed and written by Byran Forbes. He found filming and directing this movie a challenge.
