Into the West

"A magical Adventure begins ..."

The film Into The West is an Irish fantasy movie. The story is about Irish travelers on a magical journey. This movie stars Gabriel Byrne, Ellen Barkins, and David Kelly among other known European actors. The story follows two young boys by the name of Tayto and Ossie. Their father was considered to be the king of the travelers. He had to give up this title and his travels to take care of the boys. He wife died leaving them alone. The boys’ grandfather was also a traveler and has many folk tales to tell the children. One day the boys are outside playing when they were followed home by a white horse. The name of the horse is Tir na N-Og. The horse’s name means Land of Eternal Youth. The magical horse is from the sea and makes its way all the way to Dublin. When Tayto and Ossie see the horse they are very excited. They want to be cowboys and feel the horse is going to make their dream come true.

The boys and Tir na N-Og are happy until one day the horse is taken away. The police feel their little apartment is not fit for a horse and remove him. The horse is than taken over by a wealthy man. This man works as a horse breeder and is involved in some less than honest business deals. The boys find themselves going on an adventure to get the horse back. Along the way they encounter many magical beings. They are able to leave Dublin and their life of poverty behind. They venture out into the west where they find the horse in more then just an ordinary horse. This animal has magical powers. Tayto and Ossie become travelers in their own right.
