Julie and Julia follows Streep as she portrays one of the greatest chef's of all time. The film encapsulates the loving relationship between Julia and her husband and the process it took for Mrs. Child to become the well-known figure she is. The history of Child's career is followed step by step, revealing the adversity she faced during times of women not found in careers but remaining at home to care for their families.
As Julie learns to truss chickens and cook lobsters while live, she finds a new respect for Julia. Her own trials and tribulations during the cooking experiment leaves her frustrated and at times wanting to quit. She continues on, however, to craft each meal with love and an understanding of what Child went through.
Remarkable costumes, acting and writing were woven through this artistic piece. Julie and Julia is a character-driven film. The writing and acting proves that movies do not have to have amazing graphics to deliver an award winning movie. Julie and Julia is based on the memoirs of Julie Powell, who did receive a letter from Mrs. Child after the project was complete. Child didn't mention the project but that she was glad Julie was attempting to learn the art of cooking, although that was not Julie's goal. The project was simply a creative outlet.
