Just Friends

"He loves her. She loves him not."

Just Friends is a romantic comedy with a lot of emphasis on the comedy side. The story starts with Chris, played by Ryan Reynolds and Jamie, played by Amy Smart as an unlikely pair of best friends. The two attend high school together where Jamie is well liked and thought of as one of the prettier girls in school. Chris on the other hand, is not well liked because he is extremely obese. His immense size, coupled with his sensitivity makes him the butt of many jokes, most of which initiate from a boy named Tim, who is Jamie's ex-boyfriend.

Chris has always been in love with Jamie, but has never had the courage to actually tell her. He decides to write a heartfelt message in Jamie's yearbook declaring his true feelings. The situation gets out of control when Tim gets his hands on the yearbook and during a large party, reads the message out loud to all of the high school kids at the party, including Jamie. This is where Jamie finds out for the first time how Chris really feels, but she does not return his affection. This embarrasses Chris so much he leaves town and Jamie doesn't see him again for ten years.

During the time Jamie was away, he lost all of his extra weight and is thought of as a very handsome guy. He is also extremely successful in both his business and private dating life. On a trip where he has to accompany a sexy and strangely spiritual pop singer, Chris finds himself back in his home town. He also finds that he still loves Jamie and sets out to try and win her with his new good looks and charming personality. The problem is that whenever the new Chris is with Jamie, he turns into the same awkward and bumbling Chris he used to be.
