This sports comedy is set in 1930s England. Norman, who works in a jewelry store, wants to buy a window dresser a diamond pendant, but he knows it'll take him a century to pay it off. When Norman delivers a package to a female customer, he tells her about the pendant he wants to get his lady friend. The customer suggests he bet on the horses. Norman lives with a controlling mother who warns him not gamble and follow in his father's footsteps. When his mother is asleep, Norman sneaks money from a bottle in the kitchen to bet with.
