"Left Luggage" is a 1998 coming- of- age drama, set in the early 1970's in Belgium, Germany, about a young woman named Chaja who was raised Jewish. Both her parents are concentration camp survivors. Chaja is a college student who majors in philosophy, and struggles to accept the deeply Jewish culture in which she was raised. She can not get along with her parents. When Chaja decides to leave the home of her mother and her father, a family friend helps her find a job as a nanny in a Hassidic family of five children.

The film chronicles Chaja's experiences understanding and accepting her Jewish heritage.
