Life for Ruth

Life for Ruth is a 1962 British drama that addresses a serious and controversial topic. It tackles the conflict between modern medicine and religious beliefs. The story concerns a father named John Harris. When Harris's daughter becomes gravely ill he makes the decision against giving her a blood transfusion. His religion prohibits medical procedures such as blood transfusions. Ruth dies as a result, and Harris is placed on trial. Dr. Brown, who treated Ruth, is determined to see Harris punished for allowing his daughter to die. The conflict between medicine and religion is still very much a life issue. The New York Times praised the movie for handling the issue in an intelligent and thoughtful way.
