Mad City

Mad City, a 1987 film, is a hostage thriller. It was written by Eric Williams and Tom Mathews. Costa-Gavras directed this movie and starred John Travolta, Dustin Hoffman, Mia Kirshner, Alan Alda, Blythe Danner, Ted Levine and Ray J. Barry. Ex-security guard Sam Bally returns to the museum that he was fired from, armed with a shotgun and dynamite. He takes his ex-boss hostage as well as a tour group made up of children that were on a school field trip. After being in the bathroom, TV journalist Max Brackett ends up becoming a liaison between the police and the hostage taker.

At Rotten Tomatoes, this movie gets a score of 36 percent, combining 23 reviews. Roger Ebert gave it 2 out of 4 stars and felt that the movie knows what it wants to do, but it never took off.
