National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a brilliantly depicted story of the history of a nation told by treasure hunter Benjamin Gates, whose family spent generations searching for Cibola, “The Lost City of Gold." Starting from the early beginnings of America according to the movie the Gates family was entrusted with the safe keeping of the secret of Cibola's hidden treasure. In the effort to get the treasure the Gates family was accused of conspiracy to assassinate President Lincoln, young Benjamin Gates feels a determination to clear his family name. The knowledge of this treasure was passed to Benjamin Gates, played by Nicholas from his grandfather to his father and on to Benjamin. Clues require knowledge of history which is laced throughout the movie.

Written by the Wibberley’s, Ted Elliot- Terry Rossio and produced by Jerry Buckheimer and John Turtletaub, a modern adventure loaded with puzzle pieces seen by many people every day. Key pieces of the puzzle involve the Constitution and the Liberty Bell; key points hid in plain sight. In the story, Patrick Henry Gates, played by Jon Voight has resigned himself to the humiliation although he knows the accusations of conspiracy are not true. The arch rival family announces so called proof that states otherwise. This arch rival is played by Ed Harris and answers to the name of Mitch Wilkinson who also wants credit for his family name. Gates throughout the story has help in his pursuit of this ultimate quest. So determined is he to find the Book of Secrets he kidnaps the President played by Bruce Greenwood.

In the beginning a benefactor by the name of Ian Howe played by Sean Bean has financed Gates adventure in search of this treasure. They initially search for the Laboulaye Lady. They find it and an ancient pipe. After deciphering the clue it is determined the Constitution is the next step, at this point Gates is expendable and the race is on. However, to the surprise of Ian and his colleagues, Ben Gates and Riley Poole survive, played by Justin Bartha. Ben Gates after working with Ian Howe is distressed at giving clues to such a ruthless individual and decides to steal the Constitution himself to keep it out of uncaring hands; the race is on, accompanied by Dr. Abigail Chase, and played by Diane Kruger and Riley Poole the electronic wizard, Ben sets out to solve the puzzle of Cibola. In the process these characters are being followed by yet another treasure seeker, the government. In the end the treasure is found. Both families get their recognition of honor, monetary rewards are given.
