"15 years of imprisonment, five days of vengeance"
This 2013 American film is a remake of Korean director Park Chan-wook's 2003 original. The story concerns a man, played here by Josh Brolin, who sets out to find some answers after he's been imprisoned for many years without reason or explanation. The result is a film-noir-ish action movie characterized by its bleak violence. Directed by Spike Lee, the remake received an overwhelmingly negative reception, both critically and financially, earning just $4.9 million on a production budget of $30 million, and it's widely regarded to be inferior to the original film. It co-stars Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Imperioli.
