Only You

"A love story written in the stars."

"Only You" is a romantic comedy. Faith Korvatch (played by Marisa Tomei) is a young woman convinced that the name of her one true love -- Damon Bradley -- was foretold by a series of inexplicable events in her childhood, too consistent to be dismissed as mere coincidence. The name is first given to her by a Ouija board when she and her brother are messing around. This same name is later repeated by a carnival fortuneteller with a crystal ball.

Fourteen years later, just when she has given up on this childhood dream and is about to marry someone else, she learns that a man named Damon Bradley is about to fly to Venice. She decides to try to meet him, but just misses him at the airport. On a whim, she and her sister-in-law Kate hop the next flight to Venice to see if she can yet meet her destiny. She again just misses him but then she runs into a suave young man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) who inquires about why she is so distressed. She explains the situation and he promptly tells her his name is Damon Bradley.

A whirlwind romance follows and the two fall madly in love. But then he reveals his real name is Peter Wright. He lied to her because he knew if he didn't he would never see her again. Still smitten and crushed that, for her, this is a dealbreaker, he promises to help her find the real Damon Bradley. And so the wild goose chase resumes.

After several more misadventures, Faith finally catches up to the real Damon Bradley at the airport, about to board a plane heading back home. When she explains the twisted situation to this total stranger, he has an unexpectedly wise response for her. The movie ends with a couple of surprise twists, freeing her from her apparent "fate" so she can make a choice by free will.
