Over the Edge

"Nobody listened. Nobody cared. Until the night they went "Over the Edge""

This coming of age drama stars a very young Matt Dillon in his first movie role. Only 14 years old at the time, he plays one of a group of troubled teens living in the planned community of New Granada. With its optimistic slogan "Tomorrow's City... Today", New Granada is exactly what the adults are looking for; a rural Colorado suburb away from the perceived corruption of the big city. But where the planners have created the ideal environment for the parents, no thought whatsoever has been given to the needs of the children who comprise a full quarter of the population.

Stuck in an isolated residential environment, without malls, theatres, or anything else to engage their attention, the kids are bored and almost entirely unsupervised. They drift aimlessly from petty crime and small time mischief to more dangerous games once someone brings a gun into the mix.

Loosely based on the true story of Foster City, California, and its own trouble with massive underage crime statistics, Over the Edge caused controversy during its initial release and was pulled from distribution.
