"There's a world on both sides of the rainbow where songs come true and every time it rains, it rains..."
In 1934 Chicago, a music salesman named Arthur feels sad that real life can't be like the hit songs he sells. Despairing over his failed business and marriage, he meets and falls for a schoolteacher named Eileen. Their brief affair changes her life irrevocably, though it's some time before Arthur realizes it. This 1981 film is a Depression-era musical starring Steve Martin as Arthur and Bernadette Peters as Eileen. Christopher Walken also has a memorable role in a film marked for its 1930s-style songs and fantasy-dream type sequences.
