Picnic at Hanging Rock

"On St. Valentine's Day in 1900 a party of schoolgirls set out to picnic at Hanging Rock ... Some were never to return."

At the Appleyard College, a girl’s school in Australia, a group of students and several teachers go for a picnic on Valentine’s Day. They have the picnic near a formation of maze like rocks called the Hanging Rock. A small group of the girls ask for permission to go up to the rocks to examine them, and another girl named Edith is allowed to follow after them. They are seen reaching the rocks by an Englishman and two people note their watches have mysteriously stopped at the stoke of twelve. The girls, except for Edith, go in among the rocks. Edith comes screaming down from the rocks hysterical. It’s soon discovered that the girls are missing and no amount of calling for them brings a response. The teachers take the remaining students back to the school, but discover one of the teachers has also disappeared, a woman whom Edith saw also walking up to the rocks. The whole town soon becomes involved, searching for the missing girls, and trying to figure out what could have happened to them.
