"Follow Your Heart, Follow The Fence"

Rabbit-Proof Fence is a dramatic film set in the Australia during the 1930s. The film focuses on three young girls who live with their mother and grandmother. The family lives near a rabbit-proof fence which stretches for thousands of miles across Australia. The girls are called “half-castes,” which means they have one white parent and one parent of Aboriginal origin. Half-castes are considered by many Australians to be less than white people.

There is a political party leader who has made it his mission to rid Australia of half-castes. He orders the girls taken from their mother and placed into a re-education camp. The goal is for the girls to learn how to be good servants to white families. The three girls are miserable in the re-education camp and they quickly escape. Moodoo is an aboriginal tracker who is sent to find the girls. The three girls receive a lot of help from people along the way. Eventually they reach the fence and decide to follow it all the way home.

The party leader sends a man to intercept the girls and trick them into going to a railroad station where they believe they will be united with their mother. The girls believe the man, and when they arrive there, they discover that they have been fooled. One of the girls is captured, but the other two manage to escape. The two realize that they cannot save their sister, so they decide to continue on towards their home. The other two girls manage to find their mother and are happily reunited with her. The film ends with footage of the girls all grown up with one of them explaining what has happened to them. The sister who was captured has died and never made it back to family. One of the girls ended up having three girls of her own, but they were all captured by the party leader. Only one of her daughters managed to escape.
