Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

"For the good of all men, and the love of one woman, he fought to uphold justice by breaking the law."

In Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves viewers can find many familiar faces residing in Sherwood Forest. Directed by Kevin Reynolds, the movie begins at the end of the Crusades, where nobleman Robert of Locksley,(Kevin Costner) escapes from a dank foreign prison. In the process of this escape, Robert saves the life of and acquires the devoted services of a local named Azeem (Morgan Freeman).

Returning to England, Robert and Azeem learn that in the absence of the King, (Sean Connery) the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman) and his cronies have run amuck. Among other misdeeds, the Sheriff has murdered Robert's father and seized the family's property. Locksley, now called Robin Hood, turns outlaw, and is joined by, among others, kinsman Will Scarlett (Christian Slater) and noblewoman Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.)

While this film doesn't try to hide its late 20th century sensibilities, it sticks close to the classic story.
