Shalako

Shalako is a 1968 Western film starring Sean Connery. Shalako is set in New Mexico in the 1880s. Shalako is also the name of the main character in the film. Shalako is a former officer from the American Civil War. At the start of the film, a conflict is introduced between between the Apache Indians and the French. A French countess, Irina, is found wandering and is confronted by angered Apache men. Shalako has been sent to remove the French from Indian territory and ends up saving the countess.

The conflict escalates between Shalako and the Indian Chief's son, Chato. Chato launches an attack on the French's stage coach, murdering and plundering the French and their goods. After Shalako learns of this, he challenges Chato to a spear fight. Chato is almost killed, but Chato's father enters the fight and saves him at the last second. Chato's father agrees to let Shalako and his party pass if Chato may be spared.
