Sharkwater

"The truth will surface."

A 2006 Canadian documentary that was written, narrated and filmed by Rob Stewart, Sharkwater discloses the insatiable shark hunting industry and how it is severely depleting the shark population. Stewart travels with the famous ship Sea Shepherd on a dangerous open sea journey as they encounter shark poachers off of Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Stewart takes the perspective that sharks are an intelligent and highly misunderstood species that is battling against extinction from brutal human treatment. He does everything he can to change the perspective of the viewers because he sees the sharks as his friends.

Stewart was formerly a highly experienced underwater photographer for a variety of international natural and geographic publications. Without any anxiety he swims with the sharks for as long as a human can. The film is not a celebration of these magnificent animals. Filming of the industries of hunting and selling body parts of sharks is graphic and disheartening. Violence, disease, and even murder accusations intervene in the making of this documentary to add to its message.
