Sometimes a Great Notion

""Never give a inch" was the motto of the Stampers of Oregon. And live it they did!"

In this family drama set in the remote Pacific Northwest logging territory, Hank Stamper (Paul Newman) works with his father Henry Stamper (Henry Fonda) in their family logging business up the small Oregon town of Wakonda, which is suffering from hard economic times due in part to the interference by a large lumber company. When the local loggers union calls for a strike against the large combine, the Stampers refuse to participate. Stubbornly independent, they break ranks with their fellow loggers, leading to much anger in the town. The situation also causes unhappiness in Hank's n wife Viv (Lee Remick) who is unable to convince him to slow down or to pay attention to their marriage. When Hank's half brother Leland (Michael Sarrazin) returns home from college things escalate and the Stamper men struggle to maintain their family and their family business.

Directed by Paul Newman and based on the eponymous novel by Ken Kesey.
