The Big Doll House

"Their bodies were caged, but not their desires. They would do anything for a man - or to him."

This gritty drama was one of the first B movies made by producer Roger Corman and focuses on the daily lives and desires of six female inmates of a prison set in a tropical locale. After Collier is sentenced to prison for murdering her spouse, she encounters cellmates whose crimes range from drug use to political activism. When all of their lives are made more miserable by Lucian, a sadistic guard who enjoys torturing them, Alcott and Bodine reveal to Collier that they have hatched a plan to escape. Collier and a fourth inmate agree that they want out as soon as possible, too, joined by a fifth inmate, Grier, and her girlfriend. But their escape plan doesn't go smoothly. As soon as they are able to break out of the prison's sauna in the solitary confinement section, the six escapees soon realize that they will have to take a variety of hostages in order to ensure their release, including the prison's female warden and chief medical doctor.
