The Bounty

"After 200 years, the truth behind the legend."

The unforgettable tale of Fletcher Christian's mutiny against Lieutenant William Bligh on the British royal ship HMS Bounty comes vividly to life in The Bounty. Based on the true story of the 1789 mutiny of sailors during a mission to Tahiti, The Bounty delivers raw emotions and sympathetic characters. In the story, the hardship and toil of crossing the high seas give way to the lush paradise of Tahiti. The sailors revel with abandon as they are welcomed into a Polynesian culture drastically different from rigid 18th century Great Britain. Bligh struggles to maintain discipline and remove his men from the freedoms of life on the beach with beautiful women.

The demands of service to the British navy cannot compare to the bliss some of the men experience on Tahiti. Christian, played by Mel Gibson, bristles against the demands of Bligh, played by Anthony Hopkins.
