The Campaign

"May The Best Loser Win."

The Campaign is a political comedy about running mates Cam Brady and Raymond Huggins fighting to go to congress. Each representative flings mud at one another as they campaign for the upcoming election. Cam Brady is running for his 5th term unopposed until Raymond Huggins, an awkward son of a former politician, is convinced by two businessmen to run. The businessmen, Glen and Wade Motch, are backing Huggins in hopes that once elected, he will allow the duo to illegally put a Chinese factory into the district. The unknowing Huggins has his life style greatly changed in order to be more appealing to the public eye, which causes marital problems and comedic situations as Huggins becomes a viable candidate on the ballad.

At first Brady does not take Huggins seriously as a running mate because of his quirky nature. However, Brady, decides to create a film that shows Huggins in many different situations that make him look unintelligent. In response, Huggins publicly asks Brady to recite the Lord’s Prayer. Brady fails to recite it horribly and is humiliated. Because of Brady’s previous escapades, not being able to recite the Lord’s Prayer causes him to decline in popularity.

In attempts to save his career, Brady begins running smear campaigns against Huggins. At first, Huggins doesn't want to retaliate for moral reasons, but is convinced by his campaign manager, Tim Wattley, to create television ads that will hurt Brady’s reputation. Huggins crosses the line when he films Brady’s son calling him “dad” and airs it. Brady, wanting to humiliate Huggins worse, sleeps with Huggin’s wife and films it, then proceeds to air the tape publicly.

Huggins eventually learns of the Motch brother’s plans and tells him that he will be no part of it. The Motch brothers take away their funding and give it to Brady. Huggins makes peace with his family, which has been torn apart by the events of the campaign, and then reminds Brady who he is. Brady realizes that the way he has been campaigning and treating his position has been wrong, and then withdraws from the race. Brady and Huggins come to terms with one another, and Huggins promotes Brady to chief of staff. The two expose the Motch brothers while working as a team.
