In the quiet town of Clarksville, Kentucky, the local community is shaken by a series of murders that occurred more than a decade ago. The killer, known as âThe Clovehitch Killer,â has never been identified, creating fear and paranoia among the town residents. Tyler Burnside (Charlie Plummer) is a teenage boy living in Clarksville with his strict, church-going parents. His father, Don Burnside (Dylan McDermott), is a well-respected member of the community and a devout Christian who leads the local Scout troop. Tyler begins to suspect that his father may be the Clovehitch Killer when he discovers some disturbing evidence in the familyâs garage.
Tylerâs doubts arise when he finds a collection of bondage photographs hidden inside a locked drawer. The pictures are of women tied up and gagged, which is disturbing and goes against everything Tyler believes his father stands for. Tyler asks his father about the photographs, but Don dismisses them as simply old magazines.
Tylerâs suspicion grows stronger when he finds a copy of the book The Deep Red Goodbye - The Clovehitch Killerâs signature kill flower - in his fatherâs glove compartment. Tyler remembers the book used to belong to the killer and is convinced his father is the one behind the murders. The deeper Tyler delves into the case, the more he uncovers disturbing information about his familyâs past and his fatherâs relationship to the killer.
As Tyler becomes more and more obsessed with finding the truth, he begins to put himself and his family in danger. His mother Cindy (Samantha Mathis) is devastated by the suspicion surrounding her husband, and Tylerâs younger sister suspects something is wrong but does not understand what is happening.
The Clovehitch Killer is a nail-biting thriller that explores the dark side of human nature and the lengths someone will go to keep a secret. Dylan McDermott delivers a chillingly believable performance as Don Burnside, a devoted family man who may be hiding a terrible secret. Charlie Plummer is equally impressive as Tyler, the son who gradually comes to the realisation that his father may be a serial killer.
The movie is directed by Duncan Skiles and written by Christopher Ford, both of whom do a fantastic job at creating a palpable sense of tension and suspense throughout. The pacing of the film is excellent, with each scene building on the previous one until the explosive finale. The cinematography is outstanding, capturing the eerie atmosphere of a small town haunted by a killer.
The Clovehitch Killer is a cleverly written and well-acted film that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Itâs a fresh take on the classic serial killer genre, and its ability to blend mystery, drama, and suspense make it a must-watch for fans of the genre.
