The Cutting Edge

"The King of the Rink is about to meet America's Ice Queen."

The Cutting Edge is a 1992 movie that stars Moira Kelly, D.B. Kelly, Terry O’Quinn and Roy Dotrice. Kelly portrays a figure skater named Kate Moseley. She comes from a very wealthy family, and her father, Jack, who is portrayed by Terry O’Quinn, has been pushing her for years to earn an Olympic medal. Jack has spent a lot of money on building Kate a skating rink and getting her a world-class figure skating coach named Anton. Kate wants a shot at an Olympic medal, and she does not like any of the partners whom she meets. One day, a man named Doug Dorsey, who is portrayed by D.B. Sweeney,, auditions to be her partner.

Doug and Kate are polar opposites. He is a hockey player who can be crude and wild while she is stuck-up and very proper. Doug hates the idea of being a figure skater, but he knows he will probably never make it as a hockey player.

Kate has a boyfriend named Hale and hates Doug at first. She refuses to be his partner, but one day she accidentally injures him, and the two begin to establish a close bond.

As time goes on, the two confide in each other, and Doug tries to get Kate to relax and enjoy her life more. This transfers to success in figure skating. Hale and Kate eventually get engaged, and Kate begins to wonder if she has made a huge mistake because she is beginning to fall in love with Doug.

The pair is invited to Albertville to go to the Olympic finals. They decide to try a risky skating move that Anton has taught them. During their final skate, the two both admit that they do in fact love each other and that they want to be together forever.
