The Doors begins with a trip through the mind of Jim Morrison and his first psychedelic vision that includes the death of an elderly native American man. This all proceeds Jim arriving in California, where he meets with destiny and finds his lifelong girlfriend Pamela Courson, played by Meg Ryan. He also meets with future band collaborator Ray Manzarek, and soon the two musicians team up with John Densmore and Robby Krieger to form the band that changed a generation with rock music.
The Doors is equally a film that wants the audience to understand how the sex, drugs, and rock music of the sixties was influencing American culturally. Although this is such a wide topic, the film barely scratches the surface really.
If anything, The Doors tries hard to draw the audience into the reality it creates as a film. For modern audiences, it also allows a window into the hippie counterculture that has made the 1960s famous to this very day. The Doors shows itself to be a movie about music and America during times of great influence upon history.
