Watch The Endless Summer

The Endless Summer is a 1966 surfing documentary. The movie follows two surfers, Mike Hynson and Robert August, on a trip around the world. Hyson and August hail from California, which is famous for its weather and waves. Come winter though the waters become frigid, so the two set out to find other places to surf while it is the offseason in their home state.

The two embark on a journey looking for the best surfing spots and sharing the sport with others as they go. The title of the film spawned from the idea that with enough money it would be possible to follow the summer around the world. They travel to places such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii.

Bruce Brown serves as the filmmaker and narrator. He was himself a surfer and creates a less formal documentary compared to others from the same time period. The movie also features a number of other notable surfers of the time including Phil Edwards, Miki Dora and Butch Van Artsdalen.
