The Idiots is a 1998 film by Danish filmmaker Lars Von Trier, part three of his Golden Heart Trilogy which started with Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark, finishing with this film. The film was billed as a comedy and drama. The plot of the story revolves around a group of adults who act like disabled people for anti-establishment and artistic ethos reasons. They call this act Spassing, which is a Danish derivative of Spasser, roughly translating to English as a Spaz, a term of reproach and insult. One day whilst the group is Spassing, they encounter young, single diner, Karen, who is the only person in the restaurant not offended or disgusted by the group's obscene behavior.

Because of this Karen becomes friends with the counter-culture group and becomes increasingly enchanted at their views on the world. Their leader, a man named Stoffer, goes so far as to recommended that all members of the group begin spassing in their personal life as well as in public but none of the members agree, save for Karen. However, after this loss of inhibition, Karen finds that her family does not take kindly to her abnormal behavior, and it begins to have disastrous effects upon her relationship with them.

The Idiots is a 1998 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.7 and a MetaScore of 47.
