The Indian in the Cupboard

The Indian in the Cupboard is an American fantasy adventure film based on the book of the same name written by Lynne Reid Banks. Made in 1995, the film revolves around a young boy named Ormi who receives an old cupboard and a plastic Native American figurine for his ninth birthday. Going through a box of his mother's old keys, he finds one that opens the old cupboard, and so his adventure begins.

Special effects were used to create the illusion of three inch tall people as well as special stunts. The movie received a 70% score based on reviews from 20 different critics. The film ranked at number six at the North American box office upon release bringing in $35 million dollars. Two actors, Rishi Bhat and Hal Scardino, were both nominated for the Young Artist Award for their work on the film.

In one scene Ormis’ brothers pet rat can be seen. The rat was created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop and operated behind the scenes.
