The film entitled The Kings of Summer is about the experiences of a young boy known as Joe Toy who is approaching his teens. The film is also known by the title Toy's House. The film begins when Joe Toy is going through a lot of changes in his life and body since he is approaching his adolescent years. He lives in a very large family house with his father called Frank and he is not happy because he has never had the opportunity to live with his mother. In addition to that he does not get along well with his father who is too controlling and always wants to check what he is doing at all times. Frank simply tries to monitor his son and help him make better decisions in life but this approach instead causes his son to hate having him as a father.

One day Joe decides to run away from home so that he can experience freedom away from his father. He asks his best friend Patrick to join him alongside Biggio another boy from the neighborhood. The three boys elope to the woods where they plan to build a beautiful house and live away from their parents. When they arrive the woods they start gathering materials needed for the construction of the house. They immediately set to work and within a short time complete the building in which they plan to spend the rest of their lives away from all other people they have ever known in life. Meanwhile Frank becomes worried about the whereabouts of his son and tries to look for him to no avail.

The film was written by Chris Galletta and directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Music was provided by Ryan Miller while Ross Riege took care of the cinematography. It was produced by a host of talented producers such as Tyler Davidson, Ted Deiker, John Hodges, Eric Hollenbeck, Allan Marks. The stars in the film include Nick Robinson featuring as Joe Toy, Gabriel Basso featuring as Patrick Keenan, Moises Arias featuring as Biaggio, Nick Offerman featuring as Frank Toy
