The Kings of Summer, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is a coming-of-age comedy-drama film released in 2013. The film follows the lives of three teenage boys - Joe Toy (Nick Robinson), Patrick Keenan (Gabriel Basso), and Biaggio (Moises Arias), who plan to spend the summer building a house in a secluded part of the woods where they can live without the interference of their parents.

Joe is a disenchanted teenager resentful of his father's domineering ways. Patrick is his best friend, and Biaggio is a quirky outsider with odd ways, who tags along with the duo. The three boys, who have grown tired of their humdrum suburban lives, hatch a plan to live in a house they build themselves in the forest, free from any kind of parental control or supervision.

Their journey to become self-sufficient, independent adults starts with the search for a suitable location for their new home. After scouting a few locations, they come across a hidden clearing in the woods that seems perfect for their needs. However, their quest to achieve independence is fraught with challenges as they must learn to live off the land and fend for themselves.

Despite the obstacles, the boys manage to build their dream house, which they proudly call "The Mansion". However, living off the land is not as idyllic as they imagined. They face unexpected problems when they quickly realize they have no running water and must improvise by creating makeshift solutions, such as stealing from a nearby house's water supply.

The boys' parents soon catch on, and local law enforcement gets involved. Mr. Keenan, Patrick's dad, hires a private investigator to locate his missing son. Meanwhile, Joe's dad, Frank (Nick Offerman), who's dealing with the recent loss of his wife, tries to keep his son safe but stubbornly refuses to acknowledge his own role in their strained relationship.

As the summer wears on, tensions begin growing between the three boys. They all have different visions for their future, and those differences start to clash. Joe develops a crush on Kelly (Erin Moriarty) and Biaggio starts to feel left out. The three boys soon realize that being an adult is harder than they thought, and they need to make some tough decisions.

The Kings of Summer is a coming-of-age film that explores the complex relationships that exist between teenagers, their families, and their friends. Vogt-Roberts beautifully captures the emotions and struggles that come with growing up. Through the eyes of the three boys, viewers are shown how the need for independence and freedom can often lead to more challenges and responsibilities rather than a life of ease.

The characters are all well-developed, with each actor delivering a fantastic performance. Robinson, Basso, and Arias have excellent chemistry that brings their friendship and the film's storyline to life. Nick Offerman gives a particularly outstanding performance as Joe's father, who is grieving his wife's death while trying to connect with his son.

The film's soundtrack, which features songs from classic rock bands like Thin Lizzy and The Raspberries, adds to the film's overall charm. Additionally, the rustic aesthetic and beautiful natural scenery of the forest add to the film's rustic and authentic feel.

The Kings of Summer is a film that is enjoyable for both teenagers and adults, with humor and poignant moments that remind us all of what it is like to grow up. It is a touching and emotional film that manages to leave a lasting impression on anyone who watches it. It is a must-see film that reminds us that sometimes, the journey to adulthood is more important than the destination.

The Kings of Summer is a 2013 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 33 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.1 and a MetaScore of 61.
