Watch The Last Station

"Intoxicating. Infuriating. Impossible. Love."

The Last Station is a biographical film based on the 1990 Jay Parini novel of the same name. It focuses on the last 12 months in the life of Leo Tolstoy, a time during which some of his disciples hope to persuade the aging Russian to bequeath the copyright to all of his works to them rather than to his wife, Sofya. She is a woman who deeply loves Tolstoy, but whose conventional views on religious topics frequently collide with his.

His disciples attempt to convince him to sign a new will which would place his works in the public domain rather than leave them to his widow. The decision Tolstoy makes about signing the will prompts his wife to attempt suicide. Tolstoy simply wants to be able to work alone in peace, so he begins a journey to another location, but it remains to be seen whether or not he and Sofya will be able to reconcile before he dies.
