The Man from Snowy River

"The story of a boy suddenly alone in the world. The men who challenge him. And the girl who helps him become a man."

The Man from Snowy River is a tale about coming of age in the wilds of Australia. Jim Craig played by Tom Burlinson is an eighteen -year old young man who lives with his father in the mountains of Australia. Life takes on new meaning and difficulties when his father dies. Jim wants to stay on his fathers place in the mountains; he is told he must first prove himself in order to be able to live on the mountain. Spur, played by Kirk Douglas, is an old mountain man and best friend of Jim's father who becomes a mentor of Jim. He instructs Jim to go to the lowlands and work for a man named Harrison, who is also played by Kirk Douglas.

During the unfolding of the story you learn that Harrison and Spur are twin brothers who haven't spoken for years. Harrison has a large horse ranch and is a very successful gentleman. He has a daughter Jessica played by Sirgrid Thornton. She becomes Jim's first love.

Jim and Jessica become caught in the middle of the feud between Harrison and Spur. For Harrison no young mountain man is good enough for his daughter. Jim has a natural way with horses and learns quickly. Harrison has a prized black stallion that Jim is accused of setting loose. In order to clear his name and become the man he was meant to be, he sets off alone in search of the Colt. Harrison and his men are also after the Colt. When Harrison all but gives up hope of ever recapturing beautiful Colt, Jim comes on the scene and continues the pursuit.

Jim must accomplish the seemingly impossible task and prove that he has indeed become a man. He has earned the right to live and work on the Mountain. He truly becomes The Man From Snowy River.
