Watch The Man Who Came Back

The film, The Man Who Came Back, is about the Thibodaux massacre. It was the second deadliest labor strike in United States history. Several years after the civil war, slaves had been freed but they still weren't being treated fairly. The freed slaves faced a lot of injustice, despite the fact that they were free. It takes place around 1870. The free slaves got minimum wage on a Louisiana plantation but they had to work around the clock. The slaves were sometimes paid with scrip. It was money that was only accepted at the plantation's overpriced store. The workers are in debt.

The men want to gain real freedom, but they can't because of the fact that they are in debt to the plantation owners. The freed slaves couldn't move when they were in debt to the planation owners, so they were still at the mercy of the plantation owners. Since the workers want to better their lives, they decide to go on strike. The owners retaliate by getting the sheriff of the respective town involved. In addition, the owner gets a preacher and a group of thugs involved in the strike.

Reese Paxton, a white overseer, wants justice for his employees. Even though Paxton hires a Yankee attorney to defend him, but he still gets convicted by a corrupt judge. Paxton gets sent to jail, and he gets beaten on a daily basis. One of the beating almost kills him but he managed to survive. Due to his tough life, Paxton comes back to seek revenge on the people that made his life difficult. The revenge is where the "coming back" aspect came from in the title. The western film was directed by Glen Pitre. The film never got a rating.
