The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

This western debuted May of 1962, starring Jimmy Stewart as US Senator Ransom Stoddard and John Wayne as Tom Doniphon. Liberty Valance was played by the Lee Marvin. In this movie, Jimmy Stewart comes back to the town of Shinbone for the funeral of a dear friend played by John Wayne. The characters flashback several decades, when Liberty Valance terrorizes the town of Shinbone, making a fool of Jimmy Stewart. All this comes down to a very intense showdown between Valance and Ransom.

In the street fight, Valance shoots Ransom in the hand when Ransom reaches for his gun. Then there is a gunshot and Valance dies. After a few years Ransom runs for state senate and faces his past, but it really isn't the past he thinks.
