"He had to find her... he had to find her..."

This movie takes place in Texas in the years following the Civil War when Comanche Indians were raiding ranches and trying to make the whites leave the lands that were claimed by the Indians. Ethan Edwards, played by John Wayne, comes home to find his brother dead and his two nieces stolen by a war chief named Scar. The one survivor of the raid is a young man named Martin Pawley who was portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter.

Ethan and Martin begin the search for the Indians that had murdered their family and stole his two nieces. The search would last for years before it was resolved.

John Ford was the legendary director of this film and won Best Director for 1956. It was filmed in color which was rare for most movies during this time period. It was filmed on location amid the beautiful landscape of Monument Valley.
