The Sorrow and the Pity

"Chronicle of a French City under the Occupation"

The Sorrow and the Pity is a documentary which focuses on the events of World War II. It places a particular focus on the collaboration between Nazi controlled Germany and the Vichy. The documentary is particularly notable for the amount of interviews with the people involved. For example, one of the earlier interviews is with Pierre Mendès-France. He goes into great lengths detailing his time as a prisoner under allegations of desertion. Then he talks about how he was able to escape, and join up with the English forces. And how that finally led to him becoming the Prime Minister of France.
