The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is an action movie which stars Denzel Washington and John Travolta. It was an ordinary day for Walter Garber who is a New York city subway dispatcher. Walter was working when an emergency call came through on his line. Walter soon realizes that his ordinary day is turning out to be a nightmare. Ryder which is played by John Travolta, is the leader of a gang of thugs who plots an elaborate heist.

Ryder hijacks a train which is called Pelham 123. Ryder wants a ransom in the amount of ten million dollars in one hours time. In order for his message to come across loud and clear, he only wants to talk to Walter. Walter was previously demoted to the dispatcher position because of his publicized money laundering. Walter has children and a wife and he really needed the money at that time. Ryder sees Walter's story on the internet and uses his mistakes to convince Walter to get the money to him.

Walter is hurled into the middle of this fiasco. And he must race against the given time limit in order to keep thousands of New Yorker's lives safe. Ryder has already killed innocent people on the train just to make a point. And if he doesn't get his money, more people will die. Walter's job is to keep Ryder on the phone and keep him talking. The more Ryder talks, then the more information that the police can get to figure out who this criminal is.

Walter is given instructions from Ryder. If the instructions aren't executed in a certain fashion, then the people on the train will die. The instructions were for Walter to come to a disclosed area on the tracks. When Walter arrives, he must come with the ten million dollars in a duffel bag. Things go awry, and Walter must not let Ryder escape unscathed.
