Throw Momma from the Train

"Owen asked his friend, Larry, for a small favor..."

Billy Crystal plays Larry, a writer whose magnum opus was stolen by his ex-wife and published as her own work, is dealing with crippling writers block as a result he struggles to write again. He meets Owen (Danny DeVito), a student in his writing class at the local community college who desperately wishes to be rid of his terrible mother (Anne Ramsey).

Taking inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock's classic "Strangers on a Train" Owen decides to swap murders, therefore providing the perfect alibi for both of them, believing that Larry will fall in with his plan. After killing Larry's ex-wife Margaret, Owen confronts him with his plan, informing him that he now "owes" him the death of his mother in return. Initially appalled, Larry has no choice as it seems he is the prime suspect in his ex-wife's death and he decides to hide out with Owen and his mother until the heat is off. Seeing what an ogre the mother is to everyone Larry decides to help Owen, however it's not as easy as it seems.
