"Find your place in the universe."

Treasure Planet follows the story of Jim Hawkins, who is a fifteen year old boy that lives with his mother in the inn that she owns. His father left in his ship and never returned. A spaceship crashes and the pilot gives Jim a sphere, warning him that there is someone that is following him that wants it. The cyborg and his band of pirates burn the inn looking for the sphere but, Jim and his mother escape with the help of their friend, Dr. Doppler. The sphere turns into a map that Jim and Dr. Doppler figure out that it leads to Treasure Planet. Dr. Doppler quickly convinces Jim’s mother to allow them to go. He obtains a ship called the RLS Legacy with a crew to take them on their journey.

When they reach Treasure Planet, mutiny erupts from the crew. Jim, Dr. Doppler, and the ship’s captain escape from the ship. They soon realize that they had accidentally left the map on the ship. Looking for a place to hide, Jim runs across B.E.N., an abandoned robot, and asks him if he has seen a place to hide. B.E.N. invites them into his house to stay. Jim and B.E.N. go to the ship and take the map, returning to the hideout. They are captured upon return and Jim is forced to show the pirates where the treasure is. Once the treasure is found, a trap is triggered causing the planet to self-destruct. The crew escapes with seconds to spare. Silver escapes the ship with Jim’s help and he throws Jim enough jewels to rebuild the inn.

Treasure Planet is an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Jim battles through the movie with abandonment issues and finding his place in the world. This movie was the first to be released at both movie and IMAX theaters at the same time.
