"Alfred Hitchcock engulfs you in a whirlpool of terror and tension"

This Alfred Hitchcock thriller was based on the novel D'entre les morts by Boileau-Narcejac. Police John "Scottie" Ferguson is forced into retirement because his acrophobia (fear of heights) and vertigo (false sense of movement) caused the death of another policeman, and the force thought he was too dangerous to have around. He tries to conquer his fear by agreeing to follow the wife of an old friend from college who claims his wife, Madeleine, was possessed by the spirit of Carlotta Valdes. Carlotta was Madeleine's great-grandmother who had committed suicide and now possessed Madeleine.
